Planning Week 1 of Your Coming Baby Shower Party

STEP 1: Plan The Baby Shower with a Themed Party Everyone Will Remember

So, to help you make sure you throw the best baby shower ever, we've put together this four-step baby shower planning guide.

Want a portable version of this guide? Print out our quick-and-easy Baby Shower Checklist! And now let's start with STEP 1:

Week 1: Arranging the Baby Shower
You're throwing this great baby shower! Hey - that's exciting. So now there are several things you'll need to decide upon to start with, so we'll stroll on through them one by one and provide a heap of hints, ideas and tips to get it done. So here's a typical schedule to work on for the baby shower party:

  • Welcoming the guests as they arrive
  • Ice-breaker activity to start the party rolling
  • Serving snacks and food
  • Another activity or game
  • Opening gifts

This is not a fixed order and you can be fluid with throwing in some more games here and there in the troughs, change things around, leave things out, it's all in your hands! If you're a little uncertain, stick to a plan. As the warmth builds, step in and take the reins.

Working Out the Party Guest List
It used to be only women from both sides of the family and the future mom's girlfriends who would attend a baby shower. Nowadays the invitees could well include the expectant dad, both grandparents, and anyone else! So you need to decide on the sort of baby shower do you want to have? Will it be women only? - Probably not. Are there to be other shower parties such as family members only? If so, you might consider hosting a baby shower for work colleagues only or friends-only. Another trendy idea is to hold a co-ed couples baby shower.

You will need to decide on if inviting children is necessary - how many on the guest list have children. This could be another way of dividing two shower parties - one with adults only. Again the baby-to-be already might already have a sibling, then inviting several kids is a perfect way to give them a sense that the coming sibling brings fun events, so involving them in celebrating has other sides and potential benefits. If there is a sibling older than 6 or 7, then he or she could well be "in charge of" the younger kids in keeping fun activities alive. Another possibility is to have a baby sitter to take care of all the children. You can even hire professional child minders through Nannies4hire.com

Choosing the Location for the Baby Shower Party
With the guest list completed, you have the info for the size of the facilities you'll need to find. Of course, most baby showers just take place in the home of the hostess. However, you might also like to consider other venues. This again depends on whether there are children coming, of what age and how many. If you're confident on the propect of good weather, an outdoor restaurant or even a park picnic is a great option. Other possibilites could include hotels, reception halls, or how about an outing to a health club, beauty salon or spa with a lunch thrown in!

So that's rounded up this week's organizing. That's easy and give yourself a little pat your back when you're done. For the next week or two we can go through:
