Summarizing the steps for the best baby shower ever in this easy four-week baby shower planning guide:
Now for STEP 2:
Week 2 & 3: Invitations & Entertainment
By now we should have a completed guest list and decided on the location, or more specifically the address for the baby shower party. So now we should choose an appropriate theme and prepare the invitations for sending out!
Baby Shower Themes
The value of a theme is that it provides a focus or inspiration for decorations, activities and games, the invitations, perhaps even for the favors and food. Check out some of our favorite resources for Baby Shower Themes. There's a lot of different baby shower theme ideas to give you inspiration. Themes can be as cool as a simple color scheme like pink, blue and white if you know the parents-to-be are having a boy or a girl. Green is the preferred neutral color but consider if the future mom has 'her' favorite color that everyone will pick up on. The theme really helps the shopping for party items! For example, if you are using a Baby Footprint theme, you'll pick invitations with little feet and toes. It could equally be Rubber Duckies and use the duck decors, a baby bath with water in it as a centerpiece and have some rubber ducks floating around, with small rubber duck favors, and saffrony or orange-yellow foods. Sound like such fun - doesn't it!
Shower Party Activities and Games
Introducing Baby Shower games is a great way for people to get to know each other. They can create a happy mood which helps warm the party and really helps break the ice for your more reserved guests. Again you can get games that revolve around specific themes and it's worth having a few up your sleeve if things are getting a little quiet comfortable. We would recommend 3-4 games for the two to three hour shower Party. These are some of the favorites. For more ideas, be sure to check out these.
The Baby Shower Invitations
If you still have a few queries about the guest list, this is the time to finalize it. Those invitations need to be sent to give everyone time to fill in the date in their calendar. The invitations also display the theme or style for the party which will also help to inspire your guests to choose appropriate gifts and favors. Don't forget they need to have the time to buy or order these in. You may prefer to design and print out your own invitations - that way you can print as many as you like without extra cost. Also if you suddenly find you forgotten someone from the list, you can quickly correct that. There is the Invitation Generator that will really help with this and comes with the Deluxe Planning and Games Kit. They have a variety of front covers for you to choose. You then just enter the details for printing out. It’s then just a matter of folding them into envelopes and posting them off.
Time To Plan and Go Shopping!
The shopping will be divided into two stages. Just before the party we’ll need to get in all the food and drinks. But right now we will get the party favors, decorations, stamps and invitations, unless we’ve made them ourselves. A fun idea is to get tealights with the baby shower party date personalized in gold, silver of black ink on it. Personalized bud vases are also cute and neither of these two ideas are expensive. You’re going to need some prizes to give to the baby shower party game winners. They don't have to be much some simple compact mirrors, handbag items and so on. You can easily buy several items from an online store. If you had baby footprint theme, you could even pick up a variety of baby ink footprint kits and frames.
The Menu - Food and Drinks
Although you don't need to do the shopping now, you'll need to get some ideas on what you want to serve your guests. If the party is in a private house and whether you and your friends are making it or using an outside caterer, the buffet spread is probably going to be one of the easiest to organize and handle. It's so easy to have played some finger foods strategically placed so that guests automatically find themselves mingling and with something in their hands to talk about - just make sure they will be complimentary! It's great if the theme is reflected in the food, the layout or the color. And there's nothing like a punch or glass of wine to get the compliments flowing. That brings us to the time of day that you're holding the party. If it's starting early, coffee and tea is more appropriate as a starter than a cocktail. If you are short of ideas, there are more than enough baby shower recipes in the Deluxe Planning and Games Kit.
That is Step 2 completed!
