Summarizing the steps for the best baby shower ever in this easy four-week baby shower planning guide:
Now we are at Step 3: Final Details
Week 4: Final Baby Shower Party Details
We’re approaching the baby shower party fast! You're well prepared and everything is in hand that should be planned for, and the first stage of shopping completed. With only a few days left, there is just the finalizing and shopping left for the big event!
The Party Venue
Wherever you've decided to hold the party and if you've not already been there, plan a visit to make sure there are enough chairs and tables and standard party facilities. This is a good time to plan the decorations. Flowers and balloons are necessities and you should think about other little fun things to lie around or have beside the plate settings. If it is a hired facility, a visit doubles up as confirming the reservation. We recommend confirming the reservation one week and one day before the shower - it's too embarrassing if anything goes wrong with this.
Finalize The Menu and Stage Two Shopping
If you decided not to use outside caterers, you must have already a lot of thought to what food to serve. Now is the time to clarify your lists. Write down each item of the menu clearly and work out the ingredients. This should also include the beverages and any other food/snack or place setting accessories you're going to prepare, serve and present to your guests. If you're using your own cutlery and crockery, make sure you have the right numbers of plates, glasses and sufficient serving dishes, etc for all the courses. With your lists in hand, you're ready and armed for the shops - so off you go.
A Photographer
It's always worth having an official photographic record of the event - the parents-to-be will love you for that. So find an amateur photographer friend (or invite one you know if there's no one on the invitation list who can double up). Brief them with what you expect; for instance:
- a photo of each guest (to enclose with thank you her letters).
- photos of game winners receiving their prizes.
- photos of mum’s big tummy if she's up to it.
- photos of special events.
- General panoramic and crowd photos - even a group photo.
You may have to come to an agreement over the cost; but fortunately with digital cameras, a photographer’s life is much easier and cheaper. You could just email all the best photos out - but it's best to be clear of what you both expect and will get. Another clever idea is to put disposable cameras around at the baby shower. Stick a little note on each saying “Use me” so guests know they can shoot off impromptu pics.
Extra Finesses to Finalize
Here are some other suggestions of things to include for the baby shower event.
Keeping the track of all the presents is important and not so straightforward if there are a lot of guests. Get someone to keep track of all the gifts and who sent what, so the thank you letters can go out without a hitch. Remember to bring a pad for this to be recorded on, alternately one is included free in the Deluxe Planning and Games Kit.
Make sure that the mother-to-be is going to be completely comfortable. It is a big event for her since she (and the big tummy) will be the centre of attention.
That is the end of Step 3.
